CW DR Trip Devo Day 1

Day One – “Taking Off” Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Well, here we go!!!  I know you’re as excited as I am, wondering what God has in store for us this week. Maybe a little nervous even, not knowing what all this week will entail.  Who will we meet?  What will we eat? What challenges are we going to face?  What blessings?

These feelings aren’t new just to us.  As I was thinking about this day, Tuesday, May 11th, a couple families were brought to mind that probably had similar thoughts, feelings, emotions as they embarked out into an ‘unknown’.

The first are Abraham and Sarah.  Take a few minutes and check out Genesis chapter 12 and Hebrews 11:8-10.  God told Abraham and Sarah to “go out from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”  At least we know where we’re going, right?  Wow.  Can you imagine God just telling you to “GO”, but not say where?  In fact, He pretty much just left it like, “I’ll let ya’ know when you get there.”  That brings a whole new meaning to entering the unknown!

Why do you think Abram (Abraham) obeyed this strange command?  See vs. 2-3.

Another person who came to mind was Mary.  Mary was carrying some “GOOD NEWS”. We often hear the story of Mary’s long journey to Bethlehem, but before Bethlehem, she traveled quite a distance to visit her cousin Elisabeth.   Take a look at Luke 1:39-56. She didn’t know what all would happen during her journey there, let alone all of the uncertainty of what it meant to be the mother of the Messiah.  Elisabeth was blessed by Mary’s visit, but I’ll venture to guess that Mary was blessed by Elisabeth’s company and hospitality – as well as having someone to share this experience with her.

Think about a time you had some good news that you couldn’t wait to share.  What was the news?  Who did you share it with?  What was his/her reaction?

So Abram went as the Lord had told him.”  Just like we are going as the Lord has led us.  One week, to serve Him in the Domincan.  To share the “GOOD NEWS” just like Mary did.  And we’re not alone. Like Mary had Elisabeth to share in this ‘journey’, we have each other.  And while we’re setting out to be obedient like Abram, with “Good News” like Mary we can know and trust God with His perfect plan for this week.

Take a moment to journal a prayer to God, confessing any anxiety you may be feeling or simply looking to Him in obedience – to follow Him however He leads this week.
