Window Washers and Shoe Shiners

IMG_2522I’m excited and asking you to pray as we reach out to the Window Washers and Shoe Shiners of San Pedro tomorrow.  San Pedro is the closest large town/city to us about 15 minutes down the road (home of Sammy Sosa!). Erica Jude, long time missionary in the Dominican, asked a few of us if we would accompany her as she invited some of these boys to an activity this Friday.   We went out today and yesterday to give invitations for this event and tomorrow at noon, we will pick up (who knows how many) maybe 5-12 window washers and shoe shiners, treat them to a hot dog and potato chip lunch, have a couple of games and share a message with them.  Now Erica is sick with the Chikungunya :(, but we are still going forward with this activity.

God put the passage from Matthew 23 on my heart and we will share about how we can keep the outside clean (like the windows of a car or the outside of a shoe) but the inside can still be dirty ~ just like our lives.  We can have it all together on the outside, wear the right clothes, say the right things… go to church, help old ladies cross the street etc., but still have a heart that is full of sin.  Often we focus too much on the outside and not enough (or not at all) on the inside. Who can clean the inside?  Only Jesus.

The truth is our hearts are deceitful, incurable even (Jer. 17:9).  We’ve all sinned.  But Jesus.  “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.  Who can clean the inside?  Check this out:

Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snowGod, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Psalm 51:7, 10

Only Jesus can do this when we believe in Him as the Son of God, confess and repent of our sins, ask Him to wash us clean and decide to live for Him.

So yeah, that is the message for tomorrow.  Please pray for God to prepare hearts as we share with them.  If your heart is stirred with this message and you too want Jesus to clean your heart, message me and we can discuss this further.

  1. What a GREAT day! We had NINETEEN boys come, have a hot dog lunch, play games and hear the GOSPEL. FIVE raised their hands indicating they received Christ! PRAISE THE LORD and thanks for praying!!
