Jump, Baby, Jump

A few years ago I heard a story – I’m not the best at retelling stories (or jokes for that matter – what was the punchline again??), but I’ll give it a whirl.

Basically, fleas have the ability to jump.  High.  Really high.  However, if a flea is placed in a jar with the lid on it, it will jump and continually hit its head.  At some point, the flea then realizes that and stops jumping so high.  After some time, the lid is removed but the flea still will only skip and hop, but never jump… because he THINKS he can’t, when in reality he can jump 150 times his own size!

flealidHave you ever had someone put a lid on your dreams?  Have you ever been told you couldn’t (weren’t able, not smart enough, not fast enough, not talented enough, not spiritual enough) do something?  //Do you know Michael Jordan’s junior high coach told him he’d never make it in basketball???  Now, that’s a LIDDER!// Maybe it wasn’t even verbalized, but their actions put a lid on you and you’re overlooked for opportunities.  Sometimes it’s circumstances that keep you in the jar. Sometimes it’s YOU who puts the lid on your jar… Sometimes people have a control issue (don’t want you to jump because you may jump higher than me…).

If you’re a flea in a jar with the lid off – jump, friend, jump!  If you have goals, dreams, desires that are outside of the restraints of the jar – go after them.  Defy the odds.  Branch out for other opportunities.  Develop some goals and do what it takes to REALIZE those goals.  Believe you CAN and just do it! (Thanks, Nike.)

If you’re a believer and follower of Jesus – than you’ve got the Master opening jars for you all over the place.

Luke 1:37 – Nothing is impossible with God.

Phil. 4:13 – I can do ALL THINGS through Christ.

Eph. 3: 20 God can do anything, you know—far more than you

could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! (Msg)

If someone or something has put a lid on you, unlearn what you can’t and go after what you CAN.

fleanolidPS – If anyone knows the original author of the flea story, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due :).
