Being a DANCING CHICKEN in the Findlay Parade was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I mean, I LOVE to dance and be crazy, but am not often, uh- ever , really in a situation where I can just LET LOOSE like that. You see, a pastor’s wife should be dignified (HA!), an employee should be focused, a mom should be an example, a Christian should be on mission…
But it felt so good… and honestly, I’m pretty sure God smiles on us when we let our hair down and have some fun.
In ministry we have plenty of time to be serious. There’s budgets to manage, schedules to keep, activities to organize, services to plan. There’s tragedies that happen, counseling that needs done, crises that come up… heavy stuff. There’s conflicts to resolve, commotions to settle, communion to arrange. There’s a mission, a commission and purpose. Sometimes it just feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders…
Just reading that list makes me exhausted, and if I dwelled on it long enough, I’d be stressed out!! Ministry doesn’t have to be all business all the time. Let’s have some fun!
In the past, we’ve been criticized for putting on the PEEP DROP, stating there’s no spiritual value in it, (blah blah blah). (Even though there is – each year CEF – Child Evangelism Fellowship – shares the gospel with 100s of kids and every adult gets the plan of salvation on the back of the Peep Drop schedule AKA seeds planted). But, even if there wasn’t, is it not ok to just go out and have some fun?? We, in ministry, have burdens, stresses, obligations and issues, but so do the people of our community. They have troubles, struggles, issues ect. In fact, Findlay is still facing a 10% jobless rate. Times are still tough financially for many families, and the Peep Drop offers a FREE, FUN, FAMILY activity!! What in the world could be wrong with that??
I did not mean to make this into a Peep-Promo or a Peep-Soapbox… now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
The point is, we all have our plates full of serious. It’s ok to take a break and have some FUN!
There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance…
