We have a hodge-podge sound system at LifePoint. A guy we’ve “done business with” for our sound needs over the years has let us borrow some equipment since our 1st preview… which may sound very generous (and really it is ;-)) but the reason there’s no hurry to get it back is because it’s crap. Yes, I said crap, on my blog (so sue me :-)). We also have been borrowing a sound board since the 2nd or 3rd preview service from a church south of us. They want it back, and that’s ok… cuz it’s not much better than the speakers…
So, we’ve been praying about investing in a sound system. Not, top of the line… but something that won’t cut in and out and will work for us. Last weekend, Kevin found out about a guy who was selling a sound and lighting system with the appropriate bells and whistles ( I would list them , but honestly, I have NO idea… def. not a techie in that area). Kevin paid this nice guy a visit last night and he was asking $2,500-3,000 for it. Then, when Kevin said ok, can we bring you 1/2 the money when we pick it up and the other 1/2 in a month… he started back-peddling. He was re-thinking his decision to even sell his equipment!!! So, as of last night we had NO idea if this was going to be a deal or not… (BTW, Kevin looked online at that equipment… which normally sells used for about $10,000… so getting it for $2,500 would be a GREAT DEAL! Salvation Army type deal :-)!)
So, this evening, I’m at work and Kevin calls me. He knows I’m not supposed to get calls at work, so I answer it thinking something could be wrong. He says, “Are you sitting down?” I say, “Yes. What’s Up?” He replies, “The guy is GIVING us the whole sound and lighting system! For FREE!” I say, “Praise the LORD!!!” and hopefully didn’t disturb anyone in cubes near mine :-).
It’s so funny looking back to the church-planting conference we went to and the great ideas we got there (and yes, we learned a lot and yes, we used many of their ideas) but one was to create a financial plan and seek donors… We didn’t raise oodles of money, but what we did see was God providing for us every step of the way. No, it wasn’t easy… we would’ve liked to see some of the “needs” met earlier in the journey, but if it were easy, we wouldn’t be as thankful… Well, maybe we would. But, God has shown Himself powerful and faithful and true with the limited resources (financially and the initial launch team) we had and has shown us that with the little that we have to serve Him, he can multiply it like the little boy who offered 5 loaves and 2 fish!
Why do we even doubt or wonder or fret? Last weekend at the Extraordinary Women‘s Conference, Thelma Wells had us look the woman next to you in the eye and say, “God’s gonna work it out!” That stuck with me, because I can see over the years how He has worked out SO MUCH… and He is working even when we don’t see it! Reading this morning in Psalm 78, the children of Israel had a hard time remembering all that God had done for them! He says in verse 6-7 that “they were to rise and tell their children so that they might put their confidence in God.” Yet in vs 32 it says, “Despite all this they kept sinning and did not believe.” How often and how quickly we forget what God has done and is doing in our lives… but let’s quit this unbelief. Let’s share what the Lord has done so that others may “put their confidence in God”. I know the struggles you may be faced with could lead you to think that God is far from you. I know that in some trials it’s hard to even see to walk straight or even breathe. Listen, my prayer list right now isn’t, “Oh, I pray for you to bless so and so and be with so and so…” No, they’re specific, gut-wrenching life criseses that GOD is able to see them through! Have that faith that He truly does have you in His hand. We CAN trust Him! It’s ok to ask, “Why?”, but we may never know some things this side of heaven as to WHY they happened.
OK, so this was supposed to be a quick PRAISE post, but God’s faithfulness is on my heart… maybe someone needed to hear that. Maybe I did.
Great is Thy Faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed, Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord unto me!
PS. Please continue to pray for Alexis Mae. She is still on the ventilator and has been having seizures. He is able to heal her and He holds her in His hand! Visit their blog and leave an encouraging note if you get a chance… www.thehocansons.blogspot.com.
