”Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

By tomorrow at this time we should know (unless it’s insanely close like some previous elections) who our next president will be come January. In my little family, we’re a competitive bunch. No, we don’t let our kids win at games… they gotta hang with us :-). And we have some tough Nerts competitors under the age of 11 in this household. When the final American Idol show was David A. vs. David C. the house was divided 60% to 40%. Actually, you could say it was 50-50 because the youngest Grubbie wanted both the Davids to win. Those of us rooting for David A. were bummed but the David C. fans were elated!
This election, our kiddos, being a little bit older now, are starting to understand some things… like how our election process goes. We’ve explained a little bit about why we are supporting McCain and why we are not supporting Obama. Of course, then they think they know enough to get in political debates with friends and neighbors. Scary! Nevertheless, they are supporting McCain (because we are) and being the competitors that they are (they get it honest) will be super-bummed if Obama wins. I’ve already started prepping them for the possibility to which one daughter replied, “If Obama wins, I’m gonna start packing!”
Am I scared? Am I worried? Nope. This is just the United States of America. God is overseeing a WHOLE WORLD and He does a pretty good job of it! He IS still in control. When we pray, sometimes the answer is YES! Sometimes the answer is NO! And sometimes the answer is WAIT! Whatever His answer is for my personal prayer for the election, I know that He is sovereign and what lies before us is in His hands.
“About the times and the seasons; brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you. For yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in the dark, so that this day would overtake you like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We’re not of the night or of darkness. So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night . But since we are of the day, we must be sober and put the armor of FAITH and LOVE on our chests, and put on a HELMET of the HOPE OF SALVATION. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together wit Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.” 1 Thes. 5
Come what may, I need to follow the words of Paul and put on the armor of Faith and LOVE and put on a HELMET of the HOPE I have in Jesus Christ. Will I be disappointed if “my guy” doesn’t win? Yes, of course. But, I’m not worried and I won’t be devastated. My hope is in Christ alone! Whoever is our next president, I will pray for you. According to Romans 13, “There is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God.” He is still on the throne.
