You Can Rest

“Have you been standing on your own feet too long?” That phrase in the Jeremy Camp song, “Let it Fade” caught me off guard this morning. You know how you listen to something many times and then <> something clicks, smacks ya’ right in the noggin’ and WOW, you hear a WORD from God. I have been standing on my own feet too long! ‘Member in my testimony, about feeling the greatest peace when we were TOTALLY dependent on God for EVERYTHING?!?! Yet, since we’ve been back in the US, almost 3 years now, we quickly grew accustomed to a regular paycheck, stability of a budget, comfort of a stable ministry. Slowly but surely, we left God’s lap to walk this world on our own… This was never meant to be! Even when one has a steady paycheck, it is from GOD, it is His provision. In an instant, that can end, from your own choice, following God’s lead, or NOT by your own choice. We are now back to dependency. There is no steady paycheck… The job that God provided me (the week our severance ended ) has been a blessing, but even those hours are being cut. So back to the drawing board… back to my Father’s lap… which is where we should’ve been all along. “You can rest. You will find rest.” There is only One place to rest, to trust to depend on, Jesus. I read this quote this week, “When we reach the end of our strength, wisdom, and personal resources, we enter into the beginning of His glorious provisions. And that’s a wondrous place to be.” Patsy Clairmont

I think about who’s weary. I think about Shelly, whose husband lost his job unexpectedly the week before last. I think of those who have lost children, SCC, Selah families, parents of the Iowa boyscouts… Floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, typhoons… Devastating. Others who are struggling financially, in their marriages, rebellious children, strongholds of sin and on and on. What about those who don’t even know Christ, longing for something… “You can rest. You will find rest.” Enjoy the lyrics to this song by JC. Whatever your situation, I pray you are blessed.

Have you been walking on a surface that’s uncertain?
Have you helped yourself to everything that’s empty? yeah!
You can’t live this way too long.
There’s more than this, more than this.
Have you been standing on your own feet too long?
Have you been looking for a place where you belong?
You can rest, you will find rest.
You can rest, you will find rest.

Let this old life crumble, let it fade.
Let this new life offered be your saving grace.
Let this old life crumble, let it fade, let it fade.

Have you been holding on to what this world has offered?
Have you been giving in to all these masquerades?
It will be gone, forever gone.
It will be gone, it will be gone

Let this old life crumble, let it fade.
Let this new life offered be your saving grace.
Let this old life crumble, let it fade, let it fade.

Let it fade.

Are you carrying the weight too much?, are you running from the call?
Let it fade, Oh yeah.

You can rest, you will find rest.
You can rest you will find rest.

Let this old life crumble, let it fade.
Let this new life offered be your saving grace.
Let this old life crumble, let it fade, let it fade.

Let this old life crumble, let it fade.
Have you been standing on your own feet too long?
Have you been looking for a place where you belong?
